So I purchased this loader and the Mack dump truck for my son as outside toys. These are actually my first Bruder toys and I must say, I am highly impressed. When I was little, I had the steel Tonka toys (which I loved) and that is actually what I wanted to get my son. But while browsing Amazon, I stumbled upon the Bruder brand. The toys looked realistic, received very good reviews, and were priced only a little more than some of the Tonka steel toys I was looking at (which weren't as highly rated as Bruder). My one misgiving was these toys were made of plastic, which I hate about most new kids toys. When I received the toys, I was really impressed before even taking them out of the box (which is also packed greatly--no annoying ties, plastic or whatever--simply open the box and pull out the toy) just by the look. They really are detailed and very appealing to the eyes. When I took out the toy, I was actually impressed with the feel of it. It isn't some cheap plastic but is more durable (I have no idea the difference but it is obviously not the flimsy type) and tough feeling. The body of the loader is sturdy (although it does come with flimsy side mirrors) and the loader function is pretty well thought up. There are a few levers that allow to dump the shovel and lower it. One difference (and a difference maker in my opinion) between the Bruder and Tonka brands are the tires. The loader has tread tires made of rubber (I believe) and go VERY smoothly over both a hard floor and the yard outside. Tonka tires are made of hard plastic and definitely don't roll as smoothly. When pushing them around, it is obvious the difference. Another difference I have noticed is that Tonka is bland, where the Bruder brand is very detailed. Now is this plastic as durable as steel, absolutely not. But my son is not even 3 and has given it hell but it withstanding the beating. I highly recommend this toy...even over the Tonka brand (which I still love). To be candid, I am having almost much as fun with these as my son. That is how impressed I am with this toy. This lieberr loader is very real and great detail. When they say 3 years old and up, they mean it. Even my 3 year old struggled and broke off some small parts like the mirrors and exhaust pipe. My 2 year old struggled with the loader bucket operation and popped the bucket arm off it's pivot point. It went back together without issue. Just cannot let a 2 year old play with it.This toy is incredible. It's expensive as compared to some of the others but I think it's worth the cost. It's incredibly detailed, It's absolutely huge (which makes it so fun for a child), and it's so very well constructed. I'm blown away. I'll admit that when I play with my son, we take turns with this toy. It's so much fun!UPDATE - Well, the honeymoon is over. The toy broke after less then 2 months of use. The linkage which activates the bucket snapped off and disappeared. Look elsewhere and save your money. ; (It's a SHAME that nobody sells an all-steel tough truck like the ones we grew up with in the 70's.That said, there's no comparison between this toy and those.I wonder how many folks would be willing to fork over $100 or more for a decent rig. I dare say, I WOULD!As for THIS toy loader, I'm happy with the purchase and would recommend it to others. The loader is all-plastic construction, but it doesn't feel flimsy. Sorry, we've only had the toy a week, so I can't speak to it's durability.Specs:21" long(incl. bucket, lowered), 7.6" wide(tire to tire), 9" high(to top of cab), 14" high(with bucket raised)Pros:The toy is very realistic looking. It's more like a model, than a toy. There are more details than any other I've seen. The bucket*, steering, tires and engine cover all work well and are fun to play with. The toy seems well made and should last for years. There are no batteries and no noisemakers. This is a "good thing" IMHO.The bucket is/can be raised(only) by simple hand manipulation.Cons:The aforementioned plastic construction is always a disappointment, but it's a fact of life.*The bucket works ok, but it operates from plastic lever/buttons which require instruction(for the tot) and practice. When lowered, the bucket does not rest on the ground, rather 1" above. This is annoying because scooping objects requires assistance by the operator. The bucket will not dump or lower with simple hand manipulation. The buttons must be utilized.I was hoping the toy would measure a few inches bigger, but it's OK.……………..The Kid Test:My 2.5 yo grandson is a truck fanatic. He was instantly thrilled when he opened this present on Christmas day.He continues to enjoy it every day. He appreciates all the details, especially the engine compartment. He is able to manipulate the bucket without frustration.…………...Bottom Line:Is this toy worth $60? That is a matter of opinion. I appreciate the appearance and am happy with the toy. My grandson seems to like it also. If your tot is not a "fanatic" or not detail oriented, you may accomplish the same thing for $20.Not played with yet as it’s an Xmas present for my grandson, but it looks greatI do hesitate to call this a toy due to its size and construction, however its expected life will be a hard one judging by all the other Bruder toys I have purchased for our Nephew (3yrs)Took him a short while to work out the operation of the shovel's arm and bucket but once he had got to grips with it he was scooping up all his other smaller cars and putting them away, I have no idea what it is like outside due to the recent weather but I see no reason why leaving it outside, which it will for sure end up being will do it any damage at all.Overall I'm impressed and have already lined up the next Bruder excavator to add to his fleet!Bought for a present, little one loved itMy 7 year old boy loves bruder toys & plays with this articulated truck non stopThe product was just as shown on the site! It was used as a gift.
